What this test simulates

Every attempt has 9 reasoning questions, 23 Biology, 15 Chemistry and 13 Physics and Mathematics, in that order, as the ministerial decree sets for every paper. There is one clock for the whole paper and you can move between questions freely. A wrong answer costs 0.4 points, so deciding when to leave a question blank is part of the practice.

IMAT questions, written for practice

No question is copied from an official paper. Past papers are used to calibrate format and difficulty and for nothing else. Reading passages are written for this site, and the science stays at the upper secondary school level the syllabus sets.

Wrong options come from real mistakes: reversing a conditional statement, choosing the reagent in excess as the limiting one, adding times where rates should be added. Every explanation gives the worked solution and says why the most tempting wrong option fails.

What you get afterwards

Your raw points out of 90, that score as a percentage of the maximum, and your correct, wrong and blank answers, followed by a review of every question. There is no estimated ranking: the score that wins a place depends on every candidate's result and on the places available, and it changes every year. How IMAT scoring works →

Before you start

Set aside 100 minutes without interruption. Have paper and a pen, and do not use a calculator.

If you close the tab, the session is kept and you can return to it at the same address, but the clock keeps running.

How many questions and how long is the IMAT?

The IMAT has 60 questions with five options each and lasts 100 minutes.
