Frequently asked questions

Is the AP World History: Modern exam digital?

Yes. AP World History: Modern is fully digital: every section, including the essays, is taken in the Bluebook app. This practice test simulates the multiple-choice section only.

What do the AP World History multiple-choice questions look like?

Questions come in sets of three or four built on one source, such as a political declaration, a poem or a historian's argument. They ask about the source's context, causes and effects, comparisons across regions and later developments, so you need both the source and your knowledge of the period.

Which units does AP World History multiple choice cover?

Nine units from about 1200 to the present. Units 3 to 6 (c. 1450 to 1900) carry 12-15% each, and Units 1, 2, 7, 8 and 9 carry 8-10% each. This practice test follows those weights: 5 to 8 questions per unit in fifteen source sets, with public domain documents and some historians' passages written for this test.

How many multiple-choice questions are on the AP World History: Modern exam?

The multiple-choice section has 55 questions in 55 minutes and counts for 40% of the exam score.

Does this practice test give me an AP score?

No. It reports how many questions you got right and the percentage. The AP score of 1 to 5 also depends on the free-response section, which is not included, and the College Board does not publish the cut scores for each form.

Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

No. AP multiple choice is scored on correct answers only, so answer every question.
