Practice Test 1

Last updated:

The AP Precalculus multiple-choice section has 42 questions in 105 minutes: Part A without a calculator, then Part B with a graphing calculator. It covers polynomial and rational functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, and trigonometric and polar functions. This practice test simulates the multiple-choice section only.

Rules

  • · Part A: no calculator. Part B: a graphing calculator is required for some questions. This site has no built-in calculator, so have your own graphing calculator ready for Part B
  • · No formula sheet is supplied, as on the real exam: unit circle values, logarithm rules and trigonometric identities must be known
  • · Angles are in radians unless a question says otherwise
  • · Part A closes before Part B opens and cannot be reopened
  • · +1 correct · 0 skipped · 0 wrong
  • · Move freely between questions within a section

What you get afterwards

The number of questions you got right, the percentage, a breakdown by section and a full review. Each explanation gives the reasoning and then names the most tempting wrong answer and says why it fails. There is no AP score of 1 to 5: free response is not included and the College Board publishes no cut scores for its forms.

Before you start

Set aside 105 minutes without interruption. If you close the tab, the session is kept and you can return to it at the same address, but the clock keeps running, as it would in the exam room.

Frequently asked questions

What units are on the AP Precalculus exam?

Three: polynomial and rational functions (30-40% of the multiple choice), exponential and logarithmic functions (27-40%), and trigonometric and polar functions (30-35%). Unit 4, on parameters, vectors and matrices, is taught in the course but not assessed on the exam.

Can I use a calculator on AP Precalculus multiple choice?

Only in Part B, where a graphing calculator is required for some questions. Part A is taken without one. On exam day Bluebook includes a graphing calculator for Part B; this practice test has none built in, so use your own.

Is there a formula sheet on AP Precalculus?

No. The College Board supplies no formula sheet, so unit circle values, logarithm and exponent rules, trigonometric identities and the conversions between polar and rectangular coordinates must be known. This practice test follows the same rule.

Is the AP Precalculus exam digital?

It is a hybrid exam. The multiple-choice section is taken in the Bluebook app and the free-response answers are handwritten in a paper booklet. This practice test simulates the multiple-choice section only.

How many multiple-choice questions are on the AP Precalculus exam?

The multiple-choice section has 42 questions in 105 minutes and counts for 62.5% of the exam score.

Does this practice test give me an AP score?

No. It reports how many questions you got right and the percentage. The AP score of 1 to 5 also depends on the free-response section, which is not included, and the College Board does not publish the cut scores for each form.

Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

No. AP multiple choice is scored on correct answers only, so answer every question.

Is AxoPrep official?

No. AxoPrep is not affiliated with the College Board. AP is a trademark of the College Board. Every question here is original.
