Practice Test 1

Last updated:

From May 2027 the AP Physics 1 multiple-choice section has 42 questions in 85 minutes, across eight units of algebra-based mechanics and fluids, with calculations, graphs and data tables throughout. This practice test simulates the multiple-choice section only.

Rules

  • · A scientific or graphing calculator is allowed, as on the real exam. This site has no built-in calculator, so have your own ready
  • · The real exam supplies an equation sheet and a table of information; here every value a question needs is printed in the question, with g = 10 m/s² where the question says so
  • · Set-ups are described in words and data are shown in tables and graphs; there are no drawn diagrams
  • · Two sets of two questions share one experiment: a collision of carts and a mass on a spring
  • · +1 correct · 0 skipped · 0 wrong
  • · Move freely between questions within a section

What you get afterwards

The number of questions you got right, the percentage, a breakdown by section and a full review. Each explanation gives the reasoning and then names the most tempting wrong answer and says why it fails. There is no AP score of 1 to 5: free response is not included and the College Board publishes no cut scores for its forms.

Before you start

Set aside 85 minutes without interruption. If you close the tab, the session is kept and you can return to it at the same address, but the clock keeps running, as it would in the exam room.

Frequently asked questions

What changed in AP Physics 1 for 2027?

The multiple-choice section grows from 40 questions in 80 minutes to 42 questions in 85 minutes. The course content, the eight units and their weights are unchanged. Since the 2025 redesign every question is single-select with four choices, and fluids is part of the course.

Is the AP Physics 1 exam digital?

It is a hybrid exam. The multiple-choice section is taken in the Bluebook app and the free-response answers are handwritten in a paper booklet. This practice test simulates the multiple-choice section only.

Can I use a calculator and an equation sheet on AP Physics 1?

Yes. A scientific or graphing calculator is allowed on both sections, and the College Board supplies an equation sheet and a table of information. This practice test prints every value a question needs in the question itself.

Which units does AP Physics 1 multiple choice cover?

Eight units: kinematics, force and translational dynamics, work, energy and power, linear momentum, torque and rotational dynamics, energy and momentum of rotating systems, oscillations, and fluids. Forces and energy are the largest (18-23% each). This practice test follows the weights: 8 questions each on forces and on energy, 5 each on kinematics, momentum, torque and fluids, and 3 each on rotating systems and oscillations.

How many multiple-choice questions are on the AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based exam?

The multiple-choice section has 42 questions in 85 minutes and counts for 50% of the exam score.

Does this practice test give me an AP score?

No. It reports how many questions you got right and the percentage. The AP score of 1 to 5 also depends on the free-response section, which is not included, and the College Board does not publish the cut scores for each form.

Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

No. AP multiple choice is scored on correct answers only, so answer every question.

Is AxoPrep official?
