Frequently asked questions

Is the AP Macroeconomics exam digital?

It is a hybrid exam. The multiple-choice section is taken in the Bluebook app and the free-response answers, including the graphs, are drawn and written by hand in a paper booklet. This practice test simulates the multiple-choice section only.

Can I use a calculator on AP Macroeconomics?

Yes. A four-function calculator is allowed on both sections. No formula sheet is supplied, so you need to know the formulas yourself, such as the spending multiplier, the money multiplier and the real interest rate.

Which units does AP Macroeconomics multiple choice cover?

Six units. Long-Run Consequences of Stabilization Policies is the largest (20-30%), then National Income and Price Determination (17-27%), Financial Sector (18-23%), Economic Indicators and the Business Cycle (12-17%), Open Economy (10-13%) and Basic Economic Concepts (5-10%). This practice test follows those weights: 14, 13, 12, 9, 7 and 5 questions.

How are graphs tested without drawing them?

Many multiple-choice questions ask what happens to a curve and to the equilibrium when something changes: aggregate demand and supply, the money market, loanable funds, the Phillips curve and the foreign exchange market. Here graphs are given as tables or line charts, or the curves and shifts are described in words.

How many multiple-choice questions are on the AP Macroeconomics exam?

The multiple-choice section has 60 questions in 70 minutes and counts for 66% of the exam score.

Does this practice test give me an AP score?

No. It reports how many questions you got right and the percentage. The AP score of 1 to 5 also depends on the free-response section, which is not included, and the College Board does not publish the cut scores for each form.

Is there a penalty for wrong answers?

No. AP multiple choice is scored on correct answers only, so answer every question.
